The Curriculum Design Initiative

The Curriculum Design Initiative was developed by the Centre for Learning and Teaching in conjunction with the Strategic Planning and Projects Office and Academic Services. It supports the University Strategy 'Practical Wisdom'.

What is the Curriculum Design Initiative?

The Curriculum Design Initiative will impact on all of the University of Brighton's undergraduate courses and will create a distinctive and innovative curriculum in line with the University Strategy. It is based on Practical Wisdom, an enquiry and research-led approach to learning, clear principles of module and assessment design, and a strong focus on inclusivity.

 What have we been doing?

  • During Autumn 2016 we collected feedback from staff and students through a workshop, Campus Information Sessions and an online survey. These contributed to the final version of the Curriculum Design Framework.
  • At the beginning of December 2016 Academic Board approved the Curriculum Design Framework (CDF).
  • All Schools were offered face to face support sessions to help their courses align with the CDF, and a range of online materials were developed.
  • Most courses have now completed the CDI process, and the CLT is now involved in the evaluation of the project.
