Office 365 for staff

Office365_400px.pngAll university staff have an Office 365 for Business account. Office 365 is a group of cloud-based productivity tools that include:

  • 1TB of individual, secure cloud-based file storage via One Drive for Business
  • The option to download Microsoft Office desktop applications to your home computers for free (this includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote)
  • Access to online versions of Microsoft Office applications so that you can collaborate with others, including students, and work from anywhere, on any device
  • Online productivity tools including Sway and Forms.

How to access your O365 account

If this the first time you have accessed your Office 365 account after your My Files have been migrated to OneDrive on Office 365, we recommend that you take a look at our printable guide to help you get started.

How to change your photo

Your profile photo will show in some parts of Office 365 including OneDrive. To update your photo see our Office 365 profile page.

What happens if you leave?

If you leave the university, your license to Office 365 for Business will expire. This means:

You will no longer have access to any files stored on your University of Brighton One Drive for Business account.

Files on your OneDrive for Business that are personal to you should be copied to, or stored on, suitable media so that you can retain access.

Transfer any work files to an area on My Department that your team can access. If you require advice then please contact the Service Desk  for assistance.

Any Microsoft Office applications that you have downloaded to home computers will no longer be licenced.

You will still be able to open and read existing Office documents, but will not be able to create new Office documents or edit documents until you get a new licence for Office or set up a personal subscription to Office 365.

If you are joining another workplace where Office 365 is used then you will be able to reactivate your software with the new login details for your new workplace.
