​Accessibility Support

 

We provide a range of software including  MindGenius and TextHELP to support staff and students at the university. 
 
 

Software for people who are blind or have a visual impairment

 
If you have a visual impairment and have any difficulty using our services, please come and talk to your library contact; either your library help desk or your Information Adviser. We would be happy to discuss your individual needs and work with you to find the best solutions.
 
You can also request customised support from Student Services who can provide Student Support Officers to work with students on an individual basis. Accessing our online services
 
We try to ensure that all our online services, including studentcentral and the online library, meet usability and accessibility requirements and the standards issued by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). If you find that they do not, please let us know by contacting the Service Desk, your Information Adviser or your nearest library help desk.

Software for learning difficulties (reading or writing)

text help 
We have a site licence for TextHELP Read & Write. This software is a 'one stop solution' for reading and
writing needs. 

It has a simple to use toolbar that works with Windows applications such as Word and Internet Explorer. It is particularly recommended for those with dyslexia but its tools can be useful for a wide range of other literacy/learning difficulties.

TextHELP Read & Write Gold is available on all Windows computers in our open access computer pool rooms. Staff can have the software installed on their university computers by contacting the Service Desk.
 
 

 

​Mind mapping as a visual tool

 

Projects.pngMind mapping is a visual tool that can help you to develop ideas and organise your thinking. It helps you to get these ideas and thoughts into structured reports, essays and assignments.

 
We have a site licence for MindGenius. It is available on all Windows PCs in our open access computer pool rooms.
 
MindGenius is also available free to staff and students for installation on Windows PCs at home under the university site licence. For more information, contact the Computer Store.
 
MindGenius also has a free app available for the iPad. Staff can have MindGenius installed on their university computers by contacting the Service Desk at ServiceDesk@brighton.ac.uk.
