SCONUL is a reciprocal scheme which allows the following groups of people to borrow material from most other university libraries in the UK and Ireland:
- staff members/researchers
- full time postgraduate students
- part time, distance and placement students.
Full time undergraduate students are entitled to reference access only.

SABRE integrates the catalogues of University of Brighton, University of Sussex and Brighton & Sussex NHS, allowing students and staff to search for materials from a single interface.

The following may be eligible to join the Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust Libraries:
staff/students on placement in the NHS
