APCs - reduced costs
Some publishers have set up voucher schemes or discounted rates for institutions that already subscribe to their journal content.
University of Brighton researchers are entitled to a discounted APC rate of £200 if publishing in titles within SAGE Choice Scheme or SAGE Premier.
To obtain the discounted rate authors should indicate that you are entitled to the discount by entering the code JISC2019 in the 'University/Institution Account Code' field when initially applying for the SAGE Choice option, returning the SAGE Choice Invoice Template to the relevant email address at SAGE as instructed on the form. A final invoice for the discounted rate of £200 only will then be raised.
Please note: due to the way the publishers system is set up, this discount cannot be applied retrospectively (in other words, once the article is published). Therefore authors must indicate that they are entitled to the discount by using this code when initially applying for the SAGE Choice option. The discounted rate only applies if the code is used, and only to titles in SAGE Choice Scheme and SAGE Premier.
Taylor & Francis
Taylor & Francis currently offer an APC offset scheme. As a participating institution we will receive vouchers entitling us to discounted APCs. We are expecting a new model to be introduced covering 2019 and 2020 but negotiations are currently still underway.
- In 2018, each voucher gives a 75% APC discount on one APC in a hybrid journal, reducing the APC from £1,895 to £473.75 (excluding VAT).
- Vouchers may be used for retrospective OA.
- Vouchers cannot be used for full OA journals as these have separate offers on APCs which vary from time to time.
- Vouchers cannot be used for the Journal of Modern Optics or Desalination and Water Treatment. These two journals offer authors a reduced APC as part of a separate APC scheme.
