UniCard Services

The UniCard offers a range of facilities and services to all students, staff and Associates.

Your UniCard is a contactless smart card and allows you to:
  • Top-Up your UniCard and review your account history
  • Access many university buildings, stair wells and rooms
  • Access some halls of residence buildings, flats and rooms
  • Library Services: Borrow Books, Media Equipement
  • Access mobile printing from your portable or laptop

You can also pay for things on campus instead of cash

  • Buy food and drink at any University of Brighton café and get 10% discount on every purchase. (Please note this does not include alcohol.)
  • Buy food and drink at Student Union cafes, restaurants and shops.
  • Sport and recreation membership from Sport Brighton.
  • Reprographics Print Services – including printing, binding and photocopying.
  • Buy IT consumables from the Computer Store and Media Centres.
  • Pay library fines online via your UniCard account
  • Libraries Services: Pay library fines, Top-Up your account and buy consumables
  • Art students: Buy all your art materials from the school 
  • Vending machine dispensing IT consumables (Falmer Library - Computer Room) 

You can also manage your UniCard Account online

This means you can top up your UniCard account with a debit or credit card, pay library fines online and review your transactions.

What information is on a UniCard? 

The UniCard chip does not store any personal information such as your date of birth. The UniCard contains the following information that is also printed on the card.


Student UniCards:picture of student unicard

  • name
  • your student number
  • issue date
  • library barcode/borrower number
  • a passport style photo
  • and the University of Brighton Students' Union membership logo. 


Staff UniCards: picture of staff unicard

  • ​name
  • issue date
  • UniCard number
  • library barcode/borrower number
  • a passport style photo.
